Yahrah St. John, author of Insatiable Hunger
I love a great summer romance because of the escapism it offers from everyday life. FORGET ME NOT by Brenda Jackson is one of my most recent favorites. I like small-town romances and found the story line to be refreshing. The heroine, Ashley, is gifted with a getaway to Catalina Cove by her girlfriends to get over the death of her husband. What Ashley finds during her stay is that the love of her life never died. Instead, Devon/Ray has amnesia and doesn’t remember their love even though he is drawn to her. Ashley is determined to make him fall in love with her again before the summer is over.
Brenda Jackson does an excellent job with imagery and makes you wish you were there. Not to mention, the beach setting is always romantic and makes me sentimental for the sunsets and candlelit dinners I shared with my husband on the beaches in St. Lucia and Jamaica. Plus, I love the bond between the women—it reminds me of the enduring friendships I have with my besties of twenty-plus years.
The book ends on a happy note but I won’t give away the ending! Let’s just say it renews my faith that we create our own fate.
Clare Connelly, author of Hired by the Impossible Greek
Summer is such a great time to make a dint in my ever-growing TBR pile. For me, when the weather heats up, I’m looking for my books to do the same! I want happy, hot, fun romances that keep me turning until the last page.
I know it sounds strange to recommend a historical romance after saying that, but PERSUASION by Jane Austen is an annual summer read for me—I’m completely obsessed with this book and the chemistry is way off the charts. I’ve no idea why it’s not the most loved of JA’s works, but it’s definitely one I think every romance reader should have glommed at least once in their lives!
For a more contemporary page-turner, TO ALL THE BOYS I’VE LOVED BEFORE by Jenny Han is a go-to. I love this book for its poignancy and feel-good moments.
IF I NEVER MET YOU by Mhairi McFarlane is another divine read—the ultimate feel-good office fauxmance with high stakes and a beautiful ending. The perfect read for those long, balmy nights…
Of course, my love of Harlequin Presents is evergreen. Winter, summer, it doesn’t matter to me. Give me a hot billionaire and a faraway location, bags of tension and angst, and I’m sold!
