Faith, Hope & Compassion: What Makes Inspirational Romance Unique

Love Inspired books offer something unique to readers: a wholesome and heartfelt exploration of what it means to fall in love while embracing a life of faith. Characters navigate difficult challenges and come through stronger than ever, forming meaningful romantic connections with people who share their beliefs along the way. So what makes inspirational romance such a special reading experience? Love Inspired authors share their thoughts:

Inspirational romance tells the whole story.

“It seems to me that faith is an integral part of our lives. Which isn’t to say that we don’t have days of doubt or questioning or sorrow…but faith is like the canvas that our lives are painted on top of. So for me, writing faith into a story is simply telling the whole and entire story; my character’s journey from an emotional, mental, physical and spiritual point of view.” —Vannetta Chapman

“Big issues” can be tackled with deeper stories.

“My favorite thing about writing inspirational romance is that I can give my characters big problems. In my books, I’ve dealt with assault, adoption, autism and alcoholism…and that’s just the beginning! The reason we can address such big, major issues in inspirational romance is that we can incorporate God into the solution. For example, it’s very tough to overcome alcoholism; many people can’t do it in real life without the help of God, prayer and a faith community. Inspirational romance is a wonderful type of book to write because many times, readers have their own big problems to solve, and they do it with God’s help.” —Lee Tobin McClain

Characters in inspirational romance have a strong moral compass.

“My characters have always had a strong moral compass and have reached out with faith in times of trouble. I love writing these stories because they are all about love. God’s love, and the gift He gave us of the love between a man and a woman, as well as the love shared by family, friends and community. The themes of love and faith, to me, seem to be closely linked.” —Jo Ann Brown

Inspirational romance celebrates powerful emotional connections.

“I’m thrilled to be able to write about faith as a natural part of my characters’ lives. Faith isn’t something to ‘add’ to a story. It’s a part of who I am as a person and I could no more take it away than to chop off my nose. As inspirational authors we have to dig deeper into the emotional relationships of our characters because we can’t rely so much on the physical side of things. I’m grateful to be able to integrate the Christian faith into my characters’ struggles.” —Deb Kastner

I appreciate reading stories about how their faith influences their life choices. Many excellent writers in Love Inspired Books addressing real issues in life and how faith in God inhabits the characters thoughts before their actions. Thanks for pure, clean leisure reading without all the “worldly smut” that degrades sexuality and romance found in most books. Love the uniqueness of Love Inspired.
