Love Inspired Authors Share the Books That Shaped Their Lives

Love Inspired reads are uplifting, hopeful and inspiring—but where do the authors behind these books turn when they’re looking for their own reading escape? We asked authors to share insights on the types of books they like to read and why. Read on for a glimpse into the reading lives of authors (and recommendations for growing your own reading list!)

Eclectic Bookshelves

“I like to read poetry, short stories and general fiction. I have a couple friends who write YA fiction and fantasy, so lately I’ve been reading that genre, too. I also read Biblical devotions (Charles Spurgeon is a favorite), biographies and other types of nonfiction. Of course, I read as many books about the Amish as I can and I’m constantly checking out what fellow Love Inspired authors are writing. But I find it’s necessary to have an eclectic taste in literature, both as a reader and as a writer, otherwise my imagination and ideas become too narrow.”Carrie Lighte

“I love to read women’s fiction and big sagas. I read across the board, all kinds of books and a lot of trade books and hardbacks. I like to read in both what I write and outside what I write.” Lenora Worth

Romantic Escapes

“I love to read romance. I read inspirational and mainstream. There’s just nothing better than a happily-ever-after for me. The world is a tough place, so if I can escape for a bit to a fictional story that will give me all the feels, then that’s where I want to be. Preferably while on a beach 😉” Jill Lynn

Mystery & Suspense

“I grew up with Nancy Drew and enjoy a little murder and mayhem as well as a bit of whodunit. Although I read a number of genres, suspense stories—especially those from Love Inspired Suspense—are my top picks when choosing a book to read.” Debby Giusti

Amish Rescue and Courting Her Amish Heart by Debby Giusti, Mary Davis

“I read romantic suspense. I suppose that’s not a surprise since that’s what I write. Clean reads or Christian romantic suspense top my list as I don’t have to worry about X-rated material slipping into the book. Among those books would be the Love Inspired Suspense books as there are so many talented authors who write for this line, and the editors have such exacting standards for the books that you always know you’ll find quality writing in a Love Inspired Suspense book.”Susan Sleeman
