Linda Lael Miller Recommends The Sergeant’s Christmas Mission The Sergeant’s Christmas Mission by Joanna Sims
by Linda Lael Miller, author of Big Sky River
It’s great to be back with another fantastic Western romance from the Harlequin Special Edition line! This is only the second of six, so keep an eye out for even more of my picks in the months to come. For November, my recommendation is The Sergeant’s Christmas Mission by Joanna Sims.
This is the latest installment in the Brands of Montana miniseries and it’s just as emotional and intense as Joanna’s previous books. Joanna has a knack for getting to the heart of her characters, making them real and flawed and vulnerable. Shane Brand is a former soldier who’s truly struggling to adjust to civilian life—he’s drinking more than he should and shutting himself off from a family that cares about him. But it’s immediately clear from the first chapter when he rescues a kitten he’s allergic to that, despite his initial gruff manner, he’s got a heart of gold deep down inside. Seeing him come to the realization that he wants to work on his more destructive habits, not only to be the man Rebecca and her boys need, but for himself and his own future, is so, so poignant.
Of course, as with all of Joanna’s books, the heroine of The Sergeant’s Christmas Mission is just as engaging. Rebecca Adams is far from perfect and she’s really not sure she made the right decision in moving her family to Montana. And her uncertainty manages to make her all the more endearing to the reader, because who hasn’t made a major life change that had the potential not to play out the way you had hoped? Nevertheless, she is determined to make it work with her two boys in this new town. And the sexy tenant living in the garage apartment is just the added bonus to make it all worth it. This is the perfect holiday romance!
About The Sergeant’s Christmas Mission:
Former army sergeant Shane Brand is struggling to find a new normal. And his lovely new landlady sure is giving Shane a reason to strive for change. If Shane can overcome his inner demons, he may be worthy of Rebecca’s trust. Now it’s his new mission to be the man the single mom deserves, in time to give them all a dose of Christmas joy.
