Author Recommendations: Linda Lael Miller on The Rancher’s Christmas Promise by Allison Leigh
by Linda Lael Miller, author of A Snow Country Christmas
I’m excited to be partnering with Harlequin to recommend some fabulous Western romances! I’ll be choosing six books over the course of six months to highlight, full of strong cowboys and compelling heroines. Of course, they all deliver on the ever-important happily-ever-after.
This month’s choice was written by my good friend New York Times bestselling author Allison Leigh. Her book The Rancher’s Christmas Promise is the latest book in her Return to the Double C miniseries, and I can’t wait for you all to finally find out what happens to baby Layla! After first being found on Lincoln Swift’s doorstep in Yuletide Baby Bargain and then passed to her mother’s brother while they searched for her parents in Show Me a Hero, Layla has now finally made her way to her biological father, Ryder Wilson, with the help of Greer Templeton—the last single Templeton sister.
Greer is doing her best to keep Layla in her life, but as she gets closer to Ryder, she realizes the relationship-shy cowboy might break her heart worse than if she had to give Layla up.
Of course, Allison always writes such strong emotional connections; in The Rancher’s Christmas Promise, it’s not only the connection between Ryder and Greer as they fall in love with each other, but between each of them and Layla and between Greer and her sisters. These additional family links make the holiday emotions even stronger as they celebrate together. And they also strengthened the happily-ever-after. You just know they’re all going to have many beautiful holiday memories to come!
This marriage-of-convenience story has it all: a reluctant hero who I just couldn’t wait to see give in to his feelings, a heroine who’s doing her best not to get her heart broken and the cutest baby who brings the two of them together! I loved that Greer was trying to balance her relationship, caring for Layla and building her law career all while making a magical Christmas for everyone around her. If we haven’t been there ourselves, we all certainly know a woman who has, and Allison makes that balancing act feel so relatable.
With that, rancher Ryder Wilson’s world turns upside down. But he’s determined to make a home for the baby his late estranged wife left on a stranger’s doorstep. Local lawyer Greer Templeton is there to help, after growing attached to little Layla during the search for her daddy. It’s enough to make Ryder propose a marriage of convenience. But does love factor into his Christmas promise?
