Author Backstory: Zuri Day
Readers know Zuri Day as the national bestselling author of more than two dozen contemporary romance novels, but did you know she has also been a rapper, singer, actor and radio host?
Zuri has taken on many roles, but one thread runs through them all—they have all been in the arts. As a singer she has performed for tens of thousands across America and Scandinavia, even performing during the halftime show at the Super Bowl as a member of Up with People. As a rapper, Zuri has written, produced and recorded her own songs—even performing in London, England. She has studied and tread the boards as an actor, including spending six months in Israel as part of a touring company.
She has been a stage director, poet, playwright and screenwriter. During her years in radio, Zuri spent time in every position from producer to on-air personality and talk show host, interviewing celebrities and politicians and covering the news and sports, including the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs. And along the way, she’s met or worked with a who’s who list of performers—from comedians Richard Pryor, Sinbad and Eddie Griffin to singers like Smokey Robinson and actors such as Ruby Dee. Today Zuri is still expanding her horizons, pursuing certification as a spiritual life coach and homeopathic healer.
For Zuri, all these experiences and special moments are poured into her work as a novelist. Each art form she has practiced explores different facets of her personality and character, and she brings these to bear upon her stories. Her ability to slip seamlessly from one role to another and inhabit the skin of others allows her to create nuanced and believable characters.
