Author Tawny Weber Finds Inspiration Everywhere
by Tawny Weber, author of Call to Engage
Have you ever heard the quote “Inspiration is everywhere and often in unexpected places. You just have to keep your eyes open.” That’s how I feel about books.
Oh, definitely, there is an infinite amount of inspiration that goes into the writing of a book. For me, I love a love story. Spreading the word, one book at a time, about the fun and delight of falling in love is pure inspiration. Added to that, I’m inspired to share stories about intense, powerful heroes and the women strong enough to love them. SEALs, by their very nature, are heroes, and provide an unending amount of inspiration when it comes to writing sexy men.
But even more than telling a story, I’m so often inspired by reading stories. In reading the Sign of Seven trilogy by Nora Roberts, I was inspired to do yoga, of all things. Yes, the storytelling was amazing, the love stories heartfelt and the suspense gripping—but more than anything, reading the heroine’s experiences with yoga totally inspired me to try it on for size. Another book, one by Jennifer Crusie, inspired me to paint furniture. And oh, so many (too many, probably) books have inspired me to try my hand at cooking delicious-sounding treats.
This was something I thought about a lot during the writing of CALL TO ENGAGE. I started off with an intense love story one that bridged a pain I could barely imagine between two characters I’d come to love. And being part of my Team Poseidon series, it of course stars a very sexy SEAL named Elijah Prescott, with a body that inspires all sorts of fantasies. But best of all, in writing his heroine, Ava, who is a fitness instructor, I was inspired to get back on the exercise wagon! Halfway through the first workout scene I was inspired to dig out my old kickboxing DVDs.
Books are like good friends that way—they inspire me to try things out, to reach for more and to go for that new experience (or that old one made new again). How about you? Have you ever been inspired to try something new from reading a book?

Her strategy: get over Elijah by getting under him again, sating herself until she can finally let go.
