A Real Life Alpha Wolf by Jessica Andersen
To gear up, here’s Jessica to tell us more about the book’s hero, Dayn — and her own concurrent love story….
I don’t know about you guys, but I love a sexy alpha wolf, especially one who has a strong protective streak when it comes to his loved ones. But in ROYAL HOUSE OF SHADOWS (RHOS): Parts 7-9, Dayn finds himself caught between his loyalty to his family and kingdom, and his rampant desire for the human woman sent to guide him out of the wolfyn realm and back to his homeland. The dangerous journey brings these two strangers into each other’s arms, testing Dayn’s mettle and forcing him to choose between his heritage and his heart.
Now… normally I would go on to say more about Dayn and Reda’s journey, but instead I’m going to share something else: While I was writing this, I met my own lone wolf. You’ll see that RHOS: Parts 7-9 is dedicated “To possibilities” … that’s because when I was about halfway through writing the manuscript, I met a guy. More, I met The Guy, when I hadn’t ever before believed in such a thing.
We “met” online and lived at a distance from each other, so our early getting-to-know-you was done by email. And because I’m not at my best when finishing up a book (think finger-in-a-socket hair, three hours of sleep a night and chocolate acne), I refused to meet in person until I had turned in RHOS: Parts 7-9. So for more than a month, we emailed back and forth, and talked about this and that, and the possibilities that we felt between us.
Two days after I turned in the book, he got off the ferry and loped over to my truck wearing a fur-lined hat and a killer smile, and for the first time in my life, I got that “mine” feeling, that instant sense of connection and possessiveness that us romance writers talk about so often. Our first date lasted twenty hours (in my defense, the return ferry was canceled … and he slept on the couch), our second date, three days (couch, really!).
Anyway, I think you’ll find that there’s an extra spark in RHOS: Parts 7-9, because as Dayn and Reda were falling in love, so was I. And, just as they got a very special happily ever after, so did I. My wolf and I got married, and I truly have never been happier. So when I see that dedication, all I can do is smile and lift a Diet Coke in a toast.
To possibilities … and to alpha wolves who will fight to the deaths to protect their mates, and stay with them forever after.
So to you, dear reader, I wish a wolfish day. And I’ll ask you this … when it comes to shapeshifters, are you a wolf kind of girl (or guy), or is there another beast you prefer? Do you want to fly with a hawk-shifter, prowl with a guy who channels his inner jungle cat, or what? I’ll be lurking around the comments for the month, and would love to hear from you!
