Love the Gentle Giants!
by Vicki Lewis Thompson, author of Cowboy All Night (Thunder Mountain Brotherhood series, Harlequin Blaze)
What fun to be on the Harlequin blog today talking about my favorite subject—heroes! Currently, I’m focused on the ones we call gentle giants. Who do you think of when you hear that description?
I instantly think of the amazing guys in the Avengers series. Chris Hemsworth as Thor, anyone? Now there’s a gentle giant! Sadly, he doesn’t appear in the new movie Civil War, but I can certainly make do with Chris Evans as Captain America! His impressive strength and size is countered by his good-humored sweetness. He’ll only unleash his destructive abilities when he’s fighting evil and protecting others.
Is anything more appealing than a man who could flatten a lesser opponent and chooses not to? Brant Ellison, the hero of Cowboy All Night, is such a man. At fifteen he was bigger than any of the foster boys at Thunder Mountain Ranch. He also had the sunniest disposition of all of them, despite his history of being abandoned by his mother and shuttled from one relative to another. When a new kid arrived at the ranch and tried to pick a fight with the cheerful big guy, Brant refused. He stood quietly taking the blows until his challenger ran out of steam. After that they became friends for life.
But no good deed goes unpunished, right? In the years that followed the incident, the story was told countless times, much to Brant’s embarrassment. Naturally, it comes up when the heroine, Aria Danes, visits the ranch. She’s already impressed by Brant’s gentleness with a newborn foal, so hearing about his compassion toward a weaker foster brother makes the muscled horse trainer irresistible.
I fell in love with Brant right along with Aria, and I can’t wait for readers to fall for him, too! Are you lucky enough to have one or more gentle giants in your life? How about a father, brother, uncle, husband or boyfriend? How about your favorite gentle giants on the big screen? Let’s talk!
About Cowboy All Night:
Brant Ellison’s easygoing nature makes him one of the most sought-after horse trainers in Wyoming. His powerful muscles don’t hurt, either. Nothing makes Brant happier than training a new colt at his foster home, Thunder Mountain Ranch—except maybe the colt’s sexy new owner, if she wasn’t all work and no play.
Aria Danes hopes that once trained, the colt will help her injured brother. But Brant is proving to be a distraction from her responsibilities—she has a wicked urge to strip him from his hat to his boots. Ride ’em, cowboy. Aria and Brant can’t get enough of each other. Their craving is insatiable, even if they have nothing in common. Even if some cowboys can never be tied down…
