june debut authors_blog image_REVISED

Who doesn’t love discovering a new author? We sure do! We love celebrating debut and milestone books at Harlequin, and this month we are thrilled to welcome a new batch of writers to the Harlequin family! Get to know five of our newest authors below as they share the scoop on their books and what it’s like to have their first book published.

Charlotte Hawks, author of The Army Doc’s Secret Wife (Harlequin Medical Romance)

I’m thrilled to announce my debut novel, The Army Doc’s Secret Wife, which I truly hope readers will enjoy. These past twelve months have been incredibly tense, yet exciting, and of course, it hasn’t all been smooth sailing. I initially got my big break from entering the fortnightly writing prompts on the wonderful Harlequin Sold! blog—I can’t recommend this highly enough to any aspiring writers out there—and the very first week there was a prompt to fire up my imagination.

Fortunately, I received wonderful feedback from the Sold! editors, which made me determined to write three chapters and submit them before the very next prompt came out. I’m not sure what I expected, but it certainly wasn’t an email from the lovely Flo, asking me if I’d like a phone call to chat about my submission. Would I ever! Cue a lot of to-ing and fro-ing over the next few months with my heart in my mouth, convinced that every conversation would be “Well, you’ve worked really hard, but we’re sorry, it just isn’t right. Thanks anyway!” Instead, I finally heard that magic phrase “We’d like to offer you a contract,” and that was when I learned the hard work was about to begin!

About The Army Doc’s Secret Wife:

Falling for her husband?

Theirs was a marriage of convenience, born out of desperate circumstances, but Thea can’t forget the wedding night she spent in Ben Abrams’s arms! Only, by dawn it was all over and her army-doctor husband had shipped out—out of the country and her life!

Now Ben is badly wounded, and Thea must nurse him back to health. Having lost her heart to her reluctant husband once, she fears getting close to him again. Dare she hope that this time Ben will choose his desire for her over duty?

J. Margot Critch, author of In the Boss’s Bed (Harlequin Blaze)

Hey everyone!

My name is J. Margot Critch, and my first Harlequin Blaze book, In the Boss’s Bed, was released on May 24. In it, straitlaced Maya Conner has a few too many drinks at a hip Montreal nightclub, and when her bestie dares her to kiss a sexy stranger standing near the bar, she does so without hesitation. But little does Maya know at the time that the sexy stranger is hotel and nightclub mogul, Jamie Sellers—her future boss!

In my time, I’ve been dared to do all sorts of things, but as I grow older I seem less likely to make a dare, let alone take one. Adult responsibilities make it harder, sometimes, to justify going a little crazy.  We need to remember to look for those small opportunities in our lives to try something off the wall instead of looking back years later and wondering what could have been. So, with that in mind, what’s the craziest thing you’ve ever been dared to do? Or find your inner Maya and tell us about the crazy thing you’ve just decided to do.

Let us know in the comments or tell me on Twitter @juanitamcritch. Or find me on Facebook at www.facebook.com/jmargotcritch.

About In the Boss’s Bed:

Hot for the boss…

Maya Connor was already embarrassed after a dare—and a shot of vodka—resulted in one seriously sexy kiss with an even sexier stranger. She had no idea that the man she made out with was hotel magnate and reputed playboy Jamie Sellers. Or that she would soon be working for him…

Maya won’t let anything get in the way of her ambition. And she’s determined to be taken seriously as she begins her career—and not give in to the heat that’s constantly driving her to distraction. Lust, that’s all it is. The more Maya and Jamie ignore it, the stronger it gets. But ending up in the boss’s bed won’t just be Maya’s wickedest fantasies come to life…it’ll be the end of her dreams.

Laurie Benson, author of An Unsuitable Duchess (Harlequin Historical)

Having your first book published is both exciting and scary. It feels a bit like sending your child off to school for the first time—you just hope people will like them. I’m thrilled my debut Regency romance trilogy is being released by Harlequin, a company with such a rich history in romance publishing, and I’ve been lucky to work with such a supportive and talented editor. My first book is An Unsuitable Duchess. It’s a fun romance that tells the story of what happens when fate steps in and a proud duke becomes one of the first English aristocrats to fall for an American. For these two, the path to true love isn’t easy, especially since they’re surrounded by a lively dowager, meddling friends and a disapproving mother. I hope you’ll pick up a copy. To find out more about my upcoming books, visit my website at lauriebenson.net.

About An Unsuitable Duchess:

The scandal of the season!

For American Katrina Vandenberg, the rules of London society are stifling. So, when a rare moment of solitude at a particularly tedious ball is interrupted, she’s disappointed…until she lays eyes on a very handsome stranger!

Julian Carlisle, Duke of Lyonsdale, is destined for a dull marriage of convenience, and Katrina couldn’t be further from the docile, blue-blooded bride he needs. An affair would be scandalous, but could there be a way for this highly unsuitable woman to become Julian’s perfect duchess after all?

T.R. McClure, author of Wanted: The Perfect Mom (Harlequin Heartwarming)

The Kentucky Derby ran, as always, the first Saturday in May. In reaction to an impromptu rainstorm, one of the horses reared, then fell just minutes before the race began. The horse was taken out of the race. I empathized with the owner before realizing that horse had been one of twenty animals in the whole world chosen to take part in the renowned Run for the Roses. What an honor. That’s how I feel as the publication date for Wanted: the Perfect Mom, my first novel with Harlequin, approaches. I’m honored to be a part of Harlequin Heartwarming’s “stable” of writers. I think that calls for a mint julep.

About Wanted: The Perfect Mom:

His daughter deserves the best.

Police chief John “Mac” McAndrews is on a mission to find the perfect mother for his daughter. Someone who will stay home, welcome his child after school and bake cookies. Obviously, Holly Hoffman is not that woman. She’s still as feisty, independent and headstrong as she’d been when they were teenagers. And she’s just spent every last dime opening

Kristal Hollis, author of Awakened by the Wolf (Harlequin Nocturne)

When I got the call from Nocturne’s senior editor Ann Leslie Tuttle, I could hardly believe my ears. Although I hoped to one day become a Harlequin author, I never imagined it happening with my first book. From the moment I said “yes,” I’ve eagerly anticipated and enjoyed every stage of the publishing process, even the edits. My favorite moments were seeing my book cover for the first time, selecting the voice actor for the audiobook, and holding a print copy in my grateful hands. I’m over the moon for Awakened by the Wolf to debut and deeply appreciative of everyone at Harlequin who helped make my dream come true.

About Awakened by the Wolf:

Who’s been sleeping in the Alpha’s bed?

Exiled from his pack by his father, Brice Walker has secretly come home to visit his ailing grandmother only to discover a human and very desirable female sleeping in his bed. Their attraction is instant. But his new bed buddy seems determined to resist his Southern charm and Alpha allure.

For Brice, fiercely independent Cassie not only represents a chance to build a new life in Walker’s Run but is also his one true mate. Cassie’s reluctance dissolves when a rogue shifter kidnaps her, and now she and Brice must work together to save his pack. But once she witnesses the savagery of wolfan justice, can Cassie accept Brice as man, beast and her true love?
