Those Mendoza Men

By Nancy Robards Thompson, author of Fortune’s Prince Charming (The Fortunes of Texas: All Fortunes Children, Harlequin Special Edition)

Over the twenty years that we’ve been falling in love with the Fortunes of Texas, we’ve met a lot of hunky heroes.  But I have to admit the Mendoza men hold a special place in my heart. Not only are they tall, dark and oh, so sexy, but they’re also strong, smart and all about family.

There are the Red Rock Mendozas, headed by patriarch Luis. He has four sons, who have all found the loves of their lives and are living happily ever after: Javier (married Leah Roberts Mendoza); Rafe (married Melina Lawrence Mendoza); Marcos (married Wendy Fortune Mendoza). Marcos used to manage the restaurant Red, which is located in Red Rock, Texas and owned by Jose and Maria Mendoza. Now, Marcos and Wendy own the Hollows Cantina restaurant in Horseback Hollow, Texas; and, of course, there’s Miguel—(married high school sweetheart Nicole Castleton). He owns a nightclub that’s still a favorite spot in Red Rock.

Recently, we’ve been getting to know some of the Miami Mendozas, especially Orlando and his sons.

Orlando is the youngest of his three brothers, Esteban and Enrique. Retired from the Air Force, Orlando moved from Miami, Florida to Horseback Hollow, Texas in 2014 after losing his beloved wife, Luz, to a long-term illness. Orlando’s cousin Luis, who is like a brother, suggested a change of scenery might be the best medicine for Orlando. He took the advice and moved to Texas to work with Sawyer and Laurel Fortune at the Redmond Flight School.

Orlando has four gorgeous sons:

Matteo Mendoza (married to Rachel Robinson); Francisco “Cisco” Mendoza (married to Delaney Fortune Jones); Alejandro, who is not married and is living in Miami. But sorry, ladies, he won’t be single for long. He’s the hero of a book I’m writing that will be released in 2017. I can’t give away too much, but what I can say is Zoe Robinson’s sister, Olivia, thinks Alejandro Mendoza is pretty darn hot. Stay tuned. I really think you’re going to love the story.

Speaking of Zoe Robinson, I had so much fun writing her and Joaquin Mendoza’s love story, Fortune’s Prince Charming, which is available now! Joaquin is also one of Orlando’s sons. When Joaquin moves from Miami to Austin, Texas to work as a consultant for Zoe’s dad, Gerald Robinson, the last thing he wants is to get tangled up with the boss’s daughter. He is perfectly happy with bachelorhood – or so he tells himself. Besides, both he and Zoe are lugging around some pretty heavy baggage in the form of family secrets.  Shouldn’t they make things right with their own families before they get tangled up with each other? Joaquin’s dad, Orlando is estranged from Uncle Esteban (who still lives in Miami). Joaquin fears it might have something to do with a love triangle. He doesn’t know for sure, but he is determined to find out. Either way, who needs the inevitable heartache that love brings? Or maybe it’s inevitable that he will fall in love with Zoe Robinson. Because she seems to be the only one who can help him make sense out of his family chaos. That’s because this woman who still believes in happy endings, can only think the best of her own big, crazy family. Maybe he needs to be there to protect Zoe from some explosive secrets that are ready to explode.

I have very high hopes that Orlando and Esteban will reconcile. Oh, and rest assured, both Esteban and Enrique have some gorgeous, eligible sons.  In fact, I have a sneaking suspicion that we will hear a lot more from the Mendoza men in the future. In the meantime, Happy 20th Anniversary to the Fortunes of Texas!

About Fortune’s Prince Charming:

Zoe Robinson had never known true love—until Joaquin Mendoza rode into Austin and stole her innocent heart. The new guy at work is brilliant and aloof, but Zoe’s nursing a secret of her own: her dad might be connected to the famed Fortune clan! But the determined beauty has never backed down from a challenge—not when it comes to her family, and not when it comes to love.

Joaquin believes he’s all wrong for the wealthiest gal in Texas—he’s got one too many family issues keeping him from surrendering his heart to lovely, innocent Zoe. Until shocking allegations surface about her family drama and Joaquin realizes that he might be the ideal match for his Texas princess after all!
