Money, Family, Cowboys and a Special Delivery!
By Michelle Major, author of Fortune’s Special Delivery (The Fortunes of Texas: All Fortunes Children, Harlequin Special Edition)
When did you read your first Harlequin romance? Was it nabbed from the box of books delivered to the door each month? Did you stay up late with a flashlight under the covers or lounge next to the pool on a lazy summer afternoon? From the American West to the Australian Outback to the Greek Isles, these stories fueled imaginations and introduced readers to our book boyfriends in the form of ranchers, cowboys, playboys, and lawmen as well as the heroines that captured their hearts. One of my favorite things about writing for Harlequin Special Edition is the long history readers have with this line and the books. It’s such a bond among readers that so many Harlequins have been passed down from mother and grandmothers, as I hope to do one day with my own daughter.
I didn’t pick up my first romance novel until I was in my late 20s but made up for lost time by reading non-stop for a couple of years before I began writing. It was a similar experience when I was invited to be part of the Fortunes of Texas: Cowboy Country series in 2015.
I was familiar with the Fortunes, but to come into such an established and well-loved miniseries was overwhelming. A book binge was in order. I read close to twenty books in a two-week period—and continue to catch up on previous series whenever I can–until I felt like I started to understand what made the Fortunes so special. For me, it’s a combination of the fun and exciting storylines, the family ties, the romance (of course!) and the unique spin each author puts on the books. I love seeing the intertwining characters through the lens of different author voices and it was an honor to collaborate with the other authors and editors on the series.
To be part of the 20th anniversary is a dream come true, especially because from the beginning of the April release, Fortune’s Special Delivery, I was half in love with my hero, Charles Fortune Chesterfield. The introduction of the British Fortunes has been such a fun twist to the series, especially watching these characters make their way in Texas. But Charles has been special for me, and not just because he’s handsome, charming and…oh, that accent. Charles is a master at fun and flirtation, but when he’s reunited with Alice Meyers, the one-night stand he’s never forgotten, his feelings toward her and his baby boy make him question everything he thought he knew about his life.
I love when a hero thinks he’s got it all together at the beginning of the story and then realizes he needs to find a way to change just about everything in order to be worthy of the heroine’s love. It was so much fun to take Charles on that journey and I hope readers enjoy it as much as I did.
I can’t wait to see where the Fortunes take us next!
About Fortune’s Special Delivery:
CONGRATULATIONS, IT’S A BOY!
Everyone knows Charles Fortune Chesterfield. The flirty son of Sir Simon and Lady Josephine Fortune Chesterfield is famous for his wit, his charm…and his libido. He’s left a trail of lovely ladies in his wake, but Alice Meyers stood out from the rest. The beautiful blonde Texan was shy, sweet and a virgin. Now, apparently, she is a mother. And guess who’s a dad?
When Charles announces he is extending his stay in Austin to get to know his son, Flynn, better, Alice doesn’t know whether to be happy or terrified. Will she once again fall prey to “the royal treatment”? Or could she and Flynn actually find a home in the handsome Brit’s heart?
