Make These Cowboys Your Next Book Boyfriends

By Maisey Yates, author of Part Time Cowboy (Copper Ridge book 1)

I love a cowboy hero. I love a lot of different types of heroes, billionaires, princes, mechanics, farmers, ex-mercenary doms… Yeah, I like a lot of different kinds of heroes. I like variety. But cowboys hold a special place in my heart.

What do I love about a cowboy? Well, in my mind they’re sexy, hard-working men who could pretty much build anything you need with their bare hands. A guy who works hard and plays hard, and isn’t afraid of manual labor, dirt or sweat. Maybe I’m romanticizing, but I’m a romance author, and reader, so I consider that part of my job.

Now, the heroes in my Copper Ridge books are all cowboys, but additionally, they’re all very different kinds of heroes.

part time cowboy Eli Garrett, the hero of Part Time Cowboy, is a good guy. An uptight guy, but a good guy. He follows the rules, never puts one foot out of line. I love this kind of hero. But most of all, I love putting him with a woman who upsets his delicate balance, and who entices him to disrupt a lifetime of good behavior with some very delicious bad behavior. Eli isn’t just a cowboy, he’s also a deputy sheriff. What’s better than a cowboy? A cowboy in uniform. And what’s better than that? Watching him get his perfectly pressed uniform UN-pressed by the right woman!

brokedown cowboyConnor Garrett, the hero of Brokedown Cowboy, isn’t so much a good guy. He’s not a bad one, either. He’s just wounded. Grieving. I’ll be perfectly honest and say I think this is my favorite kind of hero to write. Maybe it’s a little bit twisted of me to enjoy writing someone in so much pain, but the pain makes the journey to love that much sweeter. Connor is the sort of hero who desperately needs to be healed, so bringing him the right woman was very rewarding for me.

bad news cowboy Then there’s Jack Monaghan, the hero of Bad News Cowboy. Jack is the bad boy. Oh, he’s not bad bad, maybe just a little bit wicked. Too handsome for his own good, maybe a little bit cocky, a thrill seeker, and exactly the wrong man to put with the innocent younger sister of his best friends. So, you know that’s what I did. Because I’m evil. Also, because just like I enjoy watching a straitlaced guy get ruffled by a bad girl, I like seeing the playboy tamed by a good girl.

All the heroes in the Copper Ridge series might be cowboys, but they’re very different, which made writing the series a lot of fun, and I hope it makes it a lot of fun to read.

About Part Time Cowboy:

A onetime bad girl comes home to small-town Oregon in the first in a sexy, heartfelt new series from USA TODAY bestselling author Maisey Yates

Sadie Miller isn’t expecting any welcome-home parades on her return to Copper Ridge. Least of all from part-time rancher, full-time lawman Eli Garrett. The straitlaced, impossibly hot deputy sheriff glares at her as if she’s the same teenage hoodlum who fled town ten years ago. But running from her demons has brought Sadie full circle, ready to make a commitment at last. Not to a man, but to a bed-and-breakfast. On Garrett land. Okay, so her plan has a tiny flaw…

Eli works too hard to let a blonde ball of trouble mess up his town. But keeping an eye on Sadie makes it tough to keep his hands off her. And if she’s so wrong for him, why does being with her feel so right?
