What Is It About Marriage of Convenience?

by Abby Green, author of Delucca’s Marriage Contract (The Chatsfield series, Harlequin Presents)

What is it about the marriage of convenience theme that works so well? I think it’s the fact that you throw these two people together and then watch them squirm and struggle to get free of the contraint. It helps a lot if one of them in particular has no desire to get married.

In this case it’s my heroine, Keelin O’Connor. She is being forced into a marriage with Giancarlo Delucca to help shore up her family’s business, a business she’s wanted in on since she was tiny. And if this is the only way to finally get her father’s attention, then she has to do it.

Or does she? What if she goes along with the plans but then the wedding gets called off through no fault of her own? Surely that’s the best of both worlds?

So Keelin sets out to put her fiancé off marrying her however she can. He likes refined? Keelin doesn’t know the meaning of the word. He likes elegant? Keelin goes blingtastic. He hates scandal? Keelin is determined to bring scandal down on his head.

I loved writing this clash of wills between two determined and headstrong characters. It’s only once Gianni finally has Keelin where he wants her that he realizes that perhaps they might be more suited than he, or she, ever thought…but can they really resolve their differences enough to see that there might be a completely different future open to them?

Have you ever fought for something so hard that you forget what it is you’re fighting for and realized that perhaps it’s not what you wanted after all?

Why does Dianne Moggy, Harlequin’s VP of Romance Editorial, love about Delucca’s Marriage Contract? She’ll tell you in this video interview:

About the Book:

More than he bargained for…

Giancarlo Delucca has one aim—to go global. Even if it means marrying the O’Connor heiress to secure the contract.

Keelin O’Connor wants a place on the board—and no part in thiws business “arrangement”! Gianni may have vowed to seduce his wayward bride, but Keelin is fighting him every step down the aisle.

Happily-ever-after was never part of the bargain, but Gianni finds himself intrigued by Keelin’s feisty defiance. And suddenly he’s determined to turn the beautiful Irish redhead’s “I don’t” into an “I do”!

Welcome to The Chatsfield, Rome!

Absolutely loved this book. Abby Green brings such strong emotions to each and every book. In equal turn, you will laugh, cry, empathize and travel the roller coaster and feelings and situations that are part and parcel of Ms Green’s story lines. And oh by the way…. You will also need a fan!
