Marie Ferrarella Celebrates 250 Books!

This month we are celebrating an amazing achievement — the publication of Marie Ferrarella’s 250th book! Since her first book Tried and True in 1984, Marie has sold over 22 million books, been translated into 25 languages in over 40 countries, and has written for 12 different Harlequin lines.

Carrying His Secret (Harlequin Romantic Suspense) is book #250 and the first book in her new miniseries, The Adair Affairs. Marie is here with a special message looking back at 250 books and how it all began…

by Marie Ferrarella, author of Carrying His Secret

When I was about ten years old (give or take), I noticed that there weren’t very many quality heroines around on television. Outside of Sheena (a female version of Tarzan) and Annie Oakley (an extremely fictionalized version of the famous sharpshooter), there were flimsily written females who mainly wrung their hands, cried and fainted. That was not my version of a heroine, so I started writing my own. And that, unbeknownst to me at the time, was how my writing career started.

I began writing to entertain myself. And then I wrote to entertain other people. Accomplishing the latter is the greatest feeling in the world. When my first romance book came out, I put it on my coffee table and told my husband that someday that large table was going to be covered with my books. It wasn’t a boast, it was a prayer. And, as it turned out, my prayer was answered, and I now have 250 titles to put on that table! I didn’t have a specific number of books in my head, I just set out to keep selling. Thanks to great Harlequin readers and wonderful editors, I still am. So much so that just before Halloween last year, Entertainment Weekly named me the fifth most prolific romance writer of all time. That’s pretty heady stuff for a girl who collected her first rejection slip from Children’s Digest at the age of eleven.

To this day, I am still humbled that readers are buying my books and coming back for more. The one thing I can promise them is that while I am working on a book, I do my best to write the very best book I can. I can also promise them that somewhere along the line, they’re going to smile. And when they do, my job is done.

As always, thank you for reading. I truly do appreciate that and I have never, ever taken it for granted. You are the best!

Love,

Marie Ferrarella

Congratulations Marie on your fantastic milestone! Reader, what is your favorite Marie Ferrarella book?

Wow, what an inspiration! Mind boggling. I can’t help but to wonder…could you say if you started publishing in your 20s, 30s, 40s, or …? Is that too personal? I’m trying to assess how much of a lost cause I am.

Marie! You little Workaholic, you! Congratulations on 250 books! I wish Pat Teal was here to celebrate this with you, but I’m sure she knows. You go, Woman! You’re an inspiration. And the book sounds wonderful.

I interviewed Marie for an Indiana newspaper in 2007 when Shirley Jump connected us. Although I cautioned Marie that I didn’t like to read at my desktop, I read every word of a PDF ARC of Dr in the House–and was hooked. Some of my favorites? “Remodeling the Bachelor,” is on my keeper shelf, as is “Cavenaugh Heat.” All The Sons of Lilly Moreu Series, actually, and many more. Wish I had gotten a real copy of Dr. in the House now because that was lost on some old file. It was thrilling to see Marie’s name in Entertainment Weekly. Congratulations on 250 books! What an inspiration!

By the way, in January I signed up for the Heartwarming line mailing program. I hoped to get Marie’s book “Saving Home” (Ladera by the Sea) as one of the free books. And I did! Can’t wait to read it.
