2nd Annual So You Think You Can Write Digital Writing Conference

It’s here! It’s happening! The second annual So You Think You Can Write starts right…now! Okay, actually it starts on Monday. But I’m excited!

What is So You Think You Can Write? It’s Harlequin’s annual online writer’s conference, the only one where you’ll get all of the advice and guidance from Harlequin editors and authors on how to write the perfect Harlequin novel. We’re celebrating romance all week long and we’re hoping you’ll join us for the fun. Perhaps at the end of the week you’ll be ready to say “I am a Harlequin author”!

Spend the week of November 7-11 following the advice and guidance of our best editors and writers as they help you on your path to publishing your own stories. We’ll offer advice on what editors are looking for through basic level and master classes. The week is divided by theme so if you’re a novice or you’ve already got a couple of manuscripts under your belt and you’re looking to fine tune your work for submission, we’ve got something to help you. Here’s the breakdown of the schedule:

Day 1: Writing Romance

Day 2: Starting Your Book

Day 3: Revising Your Book

Day 4: Selling Your Book

Day 5: Submitting Your Book

Along with our advice, we’re offering you an opportunity to bypass that slush pile and send your work directly to Harlequin editors for critique and advice. This year we’ll be asking for your opening pages, gripping scenes, synopses and query letters–the essentials of a good manuscript submission. A selection of submissions are chosen each day for a response from our editors. Who says we need sleep? 😉

If you didn’t participate last year, or you want a quick refresher on what to expect, have a look at some of the best posts from last year’s SYTCW.

  1. Top ten things you should not do when you’re naming characters
  2. The book of your heart vs. the book to sell
  3. Five tips on how to change hats without losing your mind (writing vs editing)
  4. How to write a proper cover letter
  5. Writing visually

There’s plenty more, too! If you want to brush up on last year’s conference, head to this page and you’ll find more of our editor’s and author’s posts, plus all of the writing challenges we ran last year too. Nothing like brushing up your skills before the conference start to get those creative juices flowing, right?

We hope you’ll join us for this year’s second So You Think You Can Write online writing conference. It promises to be bigger, better and more informative than last year. You’ll find the conference on soyouthinkyoucanwrite.com and if you’ve got a Twitter account, you should start following @HarlequinSYTYCW and the #sytycw2 hashtag to join the conversation there.

Happy writing!

Am I missing the start of the conference? I thought there was like some homework to do by 6 pm, and where do we find the posting for that? Maybe I misunderstood???
