Why I Write Romance: Lacy Williams

My first sale happened because of a contest for unpublished writers. I had entered the contest three years straight, but I didn’t final until my third try. Guess I still had a lot to learn. After finaling, I received an email from the contest coordinator that Emily Rodmell from Steeple Hill wanted to see my full manuscript. First thought: “Oh, YEAH!!!!!!!!” Second thought: “The manuscript isn’t finished.”

I wish I could say I finished my book quickly, but between a full-time job, expecting a baby, and everything else, it was almost a year later when Marrying Miss Marshal got polished up. I submitted it anyway, at the urging of my critique partner. Two months later, I got a call from Emily saying she wanted to buy my manuscript. Words aren’t enough to explain my elation. Let’s just say I scared the baby and all three dogs with my screaming and crazy dance.

Marrying Miss Marshal is Lacy’s first novel to be published by Steeple Hill in 2011. Follow Lacy at her blog.
