Find Your Happy Place

It might be somewhere you never expected! Give yourself a well-deserved break from the outside world and all its stresses—investigate some new paths to rejuvenation with these self-care tips and reading recommendations.

Cocoon

Switch off your screens, brew a pot of tea and curl up indoors to knit, journal, color or start a new craft project. Stay in your pj’s all day. Listen to a favorite podcast or feel-good album. Meditate. Write a real, snail-mail letter to a friend. Cuddle with your pet or partner or both. Order in or fix yourself a favorite meal. Curl up with some literary comfort food: unexpected love stories like The Texan Takes a Wife or Garret Bravo’s Runaway Bride or a cozy second-chance romance like An Amish Proposal.

Connect

Spend some quality time with family and friends, and discover all over again why you love them like you do. Take a nature hike together, throw a spur-of-the-moment dinner party or make a reservation for a romantic night out with your significant other. Call that faraway friend and have a long chat. Go on a double date with your favorite couple. Treat yourself to a feel-good community-centered love story like The Rancher’s Christmas Song or a surprise-family romance like The Italian’s Christmas Secret.

Explore

Go somewhere you’ve never been before, whether it’s a walk in a nearby neighborhood you’ve always wanted to explore or a road trip to a totally new city. Research a dream vacation—even if it’s in the distant future or a lottery win away. Imagine what you’d eat, where you’d walk, chances you’d take. Take that intrepid spirit into your reading life and try something in a totally new genre: maybe a historical romance like Lord Hunter’s Cinderella Heiress or a tale of suspense like Stranded with the Navy SEAL.

Play

Take your dog to the park for some fetch time. Take the super-fun kid in your life to the local wave pool. Dust off your skis or rollerblades and get outside. Schedule a tennis game or go on a bike ride. Make an amazing playlist and dance `til you drop—with your cat or alone in your living room. Anything that gets your heart racing will do! Get in the mood with a thriller like Shadows in the Night or a jet-set rendezvous like Taming Her Billionaire.

Indulge

Treat yourself to the stuff that just plain feels good. Take a mental-health day from work and sleep in. Run away to the spa for a day of pampering—or just run a hot bath at home and soak until you turn pruney. Book a massage—maybe bring your honey. Take the yoga class that makes you feel like a happy noodle. Devour the dessert you most often deny yourself. Order your own bucket of movie popcorn. Watch your all-time favorite movie. Stretch out on the lounger with a drama-filled novel like His Secret Son or a nail-biter like Christmas on the Run.

Above all, be good to yourself. It’s good practice for being good to others. You deserve an escape from the real world. Whenever you need it, make a date with Harlequin.

I want to read all of these books. I will buy them, if I can’t find them at the library. Can’t wait.

Books take me to vacations I could never afford. I also learn so much about places, people, history, interesting facts and so much more. Reading makes me calm, excited, happy and sometimes sad. Reading is the answer to every day blessings. I love to read!

I enjoy reading to take me away from the stresses of daily life & what is happening in the world. It gives me the opportunity to rejuvenate, & also to feel hopeful for the future.
