Romantic Suspense vs. Romantic Intrigue: A Guide

by Karen Green

You know what you like to read, but do you know how to find the books that will hit the mark for you every time? For readers who like action and twisting, turning thrills with their romance, the Intrigue and Suspense genres are sure to please. But with an abundance of choices across the categories, which one should you choose? The differences between the two are subtle but will lead readers in slightly different directions.

Romantic Intrigue can feature a range of storylines and subgenres, and often stars handsome alpha males, who may be retired from a crime-fighting outfit, pressed into service to protect a strong woman who finds her safety in jeopardy.

Romantic Suspense can include more specific crimes that need to be solved, also at the risk of endangering a strong woman and also in partnership with an alpha male, often still an active member of a military or police branch of service.

Families, faith and feats of daring can all play a central role in the nail-biting action, and every title will offer an engaging storyline and, of course, a very satisfying, very exciting romance.
