5 People You’d Like to Meet on Vacation

by Karen Green

Some people like to go on vacation to sight-see and have adventures; some like to lounge with a good book and a cold drink. And some people go on vacation hoping for a chance at finding somebody special—even if it’s just for the weekend. However you like to vacation, there are always certain people you’ll meet while away, and each of them can offer a weary (or not-so-weary) traveler something unique. Maybe it’s directions to an out-of-the-way spot for the best seafood you’ve ever eaten; maybe it’s an invitation to a party or just a word of wisdom from someone you meet on a trail—each of these five people has something special you won’t be able to find in the guidebooks.

The Playboy

He’s here for a good time, not a long time. So as long as you go into any sort of dalliance with eyes and mind open, meeting a player on vacation can lead to all kinds of fun. He’s on the prowl, but there’s nothing wrong with a good old-fashioned consensual fling. Just be careful if you’re fooling around on the beach because nothing chafes like sand in the bikini bottoms.

The Local

The person working behind the bar, running the snorkeling charter trip or giving you directions to a great restaurant is one of your best allies while on vacation. These are the people who know the things you want to know about your location, and they can open the doors to places you otherwise might never discover. And one of the best things you can find as a tourist is an in with somebody who can take you away from all the other tourists.

The Businessman

He’s a first-class, high-ticket item and exactly the person you might want to sidle up to at the bar for a little flirting over a fancy cocktail—he’s buying, of course. Keep in mind that his ego is probably as big as his expense account, so don’t be surprised if he tells you that there’s no room in his schedule for a serious relationship. Enjoy the shrimp cocktail and let him miss you when the vacation ends… He’ll have his people call your people—I guarantee it.

The Bachelorette

Nobody has more fun on vacation than a bachelorette, so if you want a crazy, no-holds-barred, no-party-left-unattended getaway, seek this woman out. She’ll find the best dance floors—and the hottest dance partners—and bust a move until last call, but she’ll leave it all before the dawn to watch the sunrise with her girls. Trust me, if you want a vacation you’ll never forget, seek out the bachelorette. A new friend is the best kind of souvenir.

The Soul Searcher

A vacation is supposed to be a getaway, and sometimes the goal is to get away from the noise and stress of everyday worries. For that, you need to meet a soul searcher. Look for him doing yoga on the beach at dawn or hiking solo on the Camino. He’ll have piercing, wise piercing eyes that will see right through to your inner core, and if you let him, he might see a lot more than that. You’ll have deep conversations late into the night, or perhaps you’ll find a way to connect in more intimate ways. No matter what, your time together will be meaningful and memorable. Namaste.
