This cover was created by a team including an art director, a designer, a photographer/artist and a type designer. We wanted Julia’s cover to be both dramatic and beautiful so we chose to go with a colourful outdoor scene with the model in movement as opposed to a quiet indoor scene. We chose to use a well-known artist of historical romances to shoot the model and execute the final art based on a concept our designer created in-house.

We provided the photographer with a description of the heroine. He worked with numerous model agencies to find three finalists. We then looked through pictures from the portfolios of our final models to select the model that best fit the character of Honor.

The final image of Honor is actually made up of two poses seamlessly combined by the artist. The artist created the luxurious and lush English garden scene by digitally combining numerous photographs of contemporary European gardens.

The author name was hand-designed by a different artist who specializes in type design. He is known for creating the logos for HBO, Pepsi and People magazine.

About the Book

Passion and scandal collide in New York Times bestselling author Julia London’s brand-new series about four sisters determined to rescue themselves from ruin…

Desperate times call for daring measures as Honor Cabot, the eldest stepdaughter of the wealthy Earl of Beckington, awaits her family’s ruin. Upon the earl’s death she and her sisters stand to lose the luxury of their grand home—and their place on the pedestal of society—to their stepbrother and his social-climbing fiancée. Forced to act quickly, Honor makes a devil’s bargain with the only rogue in London who can seduce her stepbrother’s fiancée out of the Cabots’ lives for good.

An illegitimate son of a duke, George Easton was born of scandal and grows his fortune through dangerous risks. But now he and Honor are dabbling in a perilous dance of seduction that puts her reputation and his jaded heart on the line. And as unexpected desire threatens to change the rules of their secret game, the stakes may become too high even for a notorious gambler and a determined, free-spirited debutante to handle.

The Trouble with Honor will be available February 25, 2014 from Harlequin HQN.

  1. Fascinating! I have always wondered how the designs come together. This one is really vibrant. Question: Does anyone in the group actually read the book? Or do you rely solely on the author’s or editor’s summary/notes?

    • Hi Susanna! I don’t work in art, but many definitely try to read the book if there is time and a manuscript is available. The authors also fill out Art Fact Sheets that contain information about what the characters look like, their occupations, setting, important scenes and imagery in the book, etc. that starts the whole cover process.
