By Kait Ballenger, author of Twilight Hunter

One question I’m frequently asked by readers is: why did I choose to write Twilight Hunter hero, Jace McCannon, as such a bad boy? For those readers who haven’t had a chance to pick up a copy of Twilight Hunter yet, the first full novel in my debut Execution Underground paranormal romance series, allow me to explain a little about my hero. Jace is more than a little rough around the edges. He drinks, he smokes, and he swears worse than a sailor, all on top of being a badass werewolf hunter to boot. He’s the quintessential bad boy with a lot of anger, aggression, and a little self-loathing for the half-wolf nature he secretly hides from the rest of his teammates. All this coupled with loads of physical strength, stamina, and a rocking body, makes Jace a true alpha, but deep down Jace has a really good heart and is extremely loyal to those he cares for. He also falls wildly in love with Twilight Hunter’s heroine, allowing us to see his sweet side.

In Twilight Hunter, bad boy and werewolf hunter Jace must partner with a female alpha wolf, Rochester packmaster Frankie Amato, in order to catch a sick sexual sadist who is murdering innocent women in the Rochester, NY, area. While Jace may start out as just your classic bad boy, there is so much more complexity to him than that and as the novel progresses, we begin to see his softer side. Thus, the answer to why I chose to write Jace as a classic bad boy character with a unique twist is: because that’s what I love to read and I also wanted to give Jace lots of room so he could grow and change as a character throughout the book.

Now, I’d like to hear from you, readers. What do you love about bad boy characters? What drives you to want to read about these sexy alpha males time and time again? Do you love a bad boy who ultimately can show us his good side? And if you’ve read Twilight Hunter, let us know what you loved about Jace and his bad boy attitude. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
