What’s More American than a Cowboy?

The cowboy is a classic American hero. And that’s perhaps why we love them so much in Harlequin American Romance! Romances set in western locales—including ranches and small towns—are very popular with our readers, so we’re publishing four very special books for you in our spotlight month of July.

The month kicks off an incredible western miniseries, Harts of the Rodeo, about a close knit Montana family, with Cathy McDavid’s AIDAN: LOYAL COWBOY. You’re going to want to read all six of these connected stories, published through December 2012. We’re also featuring another book in USA TODAY bestselling author Marie Ferrarella’s Forever, Texas miniseries, with the touching and emotional A BABY ON THE RANCH. Speaking of USA TODAY, our newest author to reach the list is Tina Leonard with her Callahan Cowboys miniseries, a rollicking romp of a single dad cowboy story in THE RENEGADE COWBOY RETURNS. And you’re going to love Cathy Gillen Thacker’s THE TEXAS RANCHER’S VOW, which continues her McCabes of Texas spinoff, Legends of Laramie County, with a very sexy alpha hero!

These are four great books—but there’s more. Each one also includes a bonus story by the author, so you’re getting two stories for the price of one! We hope you enjoy this fabulous opportunity to read a total of eight cowboy stories from American Romance this July. The fun doesn’t stop there. We have many more warmhearted, emotional and dramatic books from your favorite authors through the rest of the year! Because once you read our cowboy heroes, you’re just going to want to read more of them.

Cowboys are known for being loyal, hard-working and strong. And sometimes crazy if they love the rodeo! They can be shy, or overly protective, they can be single fathers or carefree bachelors, or even guys who are secretly looking to settle down. But what they all have in common in American Romance books is that they all need to be drawn out by the love of a good woman.

Thank you for the post and question. I know this response isn’t typical, but I prefer cowboy romance heroes who are real cowboys. They work hard for a living and live close to the elements, with all that implies concerning their personalities, values, and behaviors.

I don’t like it one bit when the hero at first appears to be an ordinary cowpoke, but turns out to be a billionaire. The romance genre is swamped with hyper-wealthy heroes. My ideal man is one of modest means. And not just in romance fiction!
