by Maisey Yates, Harlequin Presents author
I’m excited to be on the Harlequin Blog talking about my very first foreign language translation! My debut His Virgin Acquisition has been translated into Spanish for the Harlequin Bianca line, and is being released in September as Una atrevida proposicion. (I love the title!)
To truly be an international author in this way, to have my book be shared with a new audience, is such an honor for me.
The work that must go into doing a translation like this is astounding. That someone has to sit and bring what I said in English into Spanish, knowing not just the mechanics of both languages, but the subtleties and idioms, is honestly a bit mind blowing to me.
I love that Harlequin gives their writers the opportunity to share our stories with so many people, and that they translate so well, across borders, continents, cultures and languages. Because love is universal. It’s something everyone understands, something everyone wants. It’s something that resonates in all of us.
Having a book released in a new language almost makes me feel like a debut author again! I hope my Spanish speaking readers enjoy Una Atrevida Proposicion as much as I enjoyed writing it.
Editor’s Note: Happy Cinco de Mayo, everyone! Thank you to our budding international writer Maisey Yates for blogging about her debut Spanish title. Her first Harlequin Presents will also be available in German and Italian, if Spanish is not your thing. You’ll have to wait until September to pick up Maisey’s title en español but there are loads of titles in the Deseo and Bianca lines available on Harlequin.com in print and in ebook format! Plus, all Spanish titles are on sale for 25% off during the month of May!
